What is the Miraculous
Medal?
The Miraculous Medal was given to St. Catherine
Laboure for the Virgin Mary. On the front, there is an oval shape around the Blessed Virgin and these words: "O Mary,
conceieved without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee." On the back of the metal is the letter "M" surmounted
by a cross, with a crossbar beneath it, and under this the Holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
Why Wear the Medal?
Our Lady promised to pour abundant
graces upon the soul who wears the Miraculous Medal. Also, it got its name from the many miracles, cures, and acts of
protection attributed to it.
Here is one story of a miracle:
A Catholic man had a friend who was Jewish.
The Jew hated Catholicism and blasphemed it as much as possible. One day his Catholic friend dared him to wear
the medal and say the Memore. A few days later, the Jew was in a church celebrating the funeral of his Catholic
friend. All of the sudden, he saw Mary as she was inscribed on the Miraculous Medal. The Jew immediatly became
converted and baptized, and then went out as a missionary to spread Catholicism.
